Councillor PEG is my name.

Education is my game.

HELLO THERE

My name is Councillor PEG.

People

Education

Government.

And this is my story and I am sticking to it.

I was introduced to the world on Saturday May 10, 2019 as a series of colourful and eye-catching educational resources.

I hoped to be used to help explain the role of local government especially to children as well as the wider community.

I turn up in the most unusual places. In card games, colouring in activities, mazes, jigsaws, on pegboards, and heaps of publications. The resources were developed indpendently by my creator as part of the charity The Goldenhope Foundation.

My creator Councillor Max Lesser from the Mount Alexander Shire explained to the gathered crowd at my debut.

“I saw the need to introduce local government in a way that makes it interesting. I became interested in telling the story of local government because I felt there was a need to explain its role to children and the community. The games and activities help people to understand what their rates go to and what local government does.”

Councillor Lesser went on to explain how he worked with the state's peak body for local government the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) to refine the messages and information.

“I created the documents and mucked around, sent through some ideas and worked with the MAV, and then away I went. I checked in with students to see what they thought of the resources, and made some more changes. The material was well received by students and all the eye-catching images - which are mathematical and geometrical in design – were developed by students from our region”.

Some time later as I (Councillor PEG), began to be rolled out across the countryside this came in.

"After reading "this" I must admit I don't mind paying rates any more!"

Excellent. Should be in the hands of all primary school children &

then sent home to the parents.

The length, depth & breadth of the council's impact on the quality

of our lifestyle through all aspects of their services to the community

is so clearly documented in this latest PEGS' initiative they should be

eagerly releasing this most positive PR document asap.

Council never looked so good!!!” signed Karen P.
